Change Interview With Past Alumni Annisa - GrowBox

A past participant of our Signature Programme Change and a Change Fellow - Annisa Wibi Ismarlanti Prajitno is one of the Co-Founders of GrowBox. We caught up with her to ask her some questions on her experience at Change September 2013 in Bali, Indonesia.

1. How was the Change Ventures experience?

Amazing! I learnt a lot in Change Ventures. Change Ventures helped me to understand myself and my business better. All the materials and tools provided by the coach was very useful especially for us in the start-up phase. The various activities throughout the programme helped me to develop myself and my start up in new ways. Being surrounded by various people from different backgrounds and nationalities who are passionate individuals and entrepreneurs made me happy to be one of the participants from Indonesia to have access to the programme.

2. How has it changed your approach/outlook to life and to your work?

During Change Ventures I learnt how to surf! An activity that I've never imagined before. Surfing!! and now I can surf! Still an amateur but from this experience I learnt that I love to challenge myself. It seems, you gain strength, courage, and confidence by every new experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the things that you think you cannot do. Thanks to this experience I am now so excited of my how my everyday life will be. Every tomorrow and every problem that I'll be faced with, I'm ready!

3. What impact did you get from attending Change Ventures?

There's so much valuable experience that I got from attending Change Ventures. The impact that hit me the most is Change Ventures changed my perspective about the entrepreneurial world. My point of view was changed dramatically, I learned so much about how to always think productively in every aspect of my life. I learnt that I have to always appreciate every minute in my life, don't waste it or you will regret it. And by taking part in Change Ventures it has broaden my network not only personally but also for our business Growbox. I'm sure Growbox would not be where it is if we did not participate in Change Ventures.

4. Main 3 take aways?

1. Network

2. New perspective about life and entrepreneurship

3. New entrepreneurial skills

5. What are you doing now?

Now I'm still growing Growbox through my company named IDEAS Indonesia. IDEAS is an acronym for Innovation, Design, Engineering, and Art & Science. We have collaborated with the principle that a problem can be solved with an integrated solution. Starting with some disciplines such as Architecture, Economics, Design, Microbiology, & Agribusiness. With this diversity we can explore solutions with various disciplines. Our focus is on developing a sustainable lifestyle. Some of the ideas that we have initiated are Growbox urban mushroom farm, a farmer's market Agritektur, and microhydro power plant in the village of Wae Rebo - Flores, Indonesia.

We like ideas that contain local content contained in Indonesia. Indonesia is rich in culture and nature is our inspiration to work. Great attention to environmental, social, economic and of course a fundamental principle of our work and we always take a collaborative approach towards building a sustainable Indonesia.

6. What one piece of advice would you give to someone going through a similar point in their lives that you had gone through?

Nothing magically works out, like Walt disney said, "If you can dream it, you can do it! Dream, believe, and make it happen!"
