Change Ventures 2014 - Day 12

What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals ~ Zig Ziglar
What We Did Following yesterday's full day of work and intensive sessions, we decided it was time for some R&R at the beach. After this morning's Check-In, we set out for a day at Echo Beach. After lunch, students were paired up for their peer-to-peer (P2P) walk & talk. Students were asked to pick a partner whom they wanted to get to know better and, on their walk, discuss how the programme has been and the areas/ways in which they could support one another over the remaining weeks at Change Ventures. After the P2P, we hung out, snapped a couple silly pics and a group of the students self-organised a beginners surfing lesson led by one of our expert surfer students, Dan.
What We Observed The group needed the day to get out of the Villas and enjoy time to play. The surfing group did a great job of organising themselves and we were happy to see them supporting one another, particularly the non-swimmers. It was clear that a level of comfort and trust had been established among the students which is wonderful to see.
Key Takeaways The surfing group came back to the Villas on a high. They raved about Dan's instruction skills and Dan was clearly in his element leading the group. There's something to be said about doing what you love and there's also something to be said about the value of shared experience. These were both evident with the surfing group; we loved hearing that they'd helped eachother to push boundaries and overcome their fears to reach new heights!
